Having long been afflicted with ‘wanderlust’, I have always loved to travel, and am most at home when I’m on the road, map in hand. I find that the more you travel, the longer your wish list gets, so you simply have to just keep exploring. My love for all things Latin stems from my parents for the most part, who lived for a number of years in Venezuela.
Their passion for Latin America was passed on to me through numerous trips, cooking Latin specialties at home and even Latin dancing! I went on to read Hispanic and French studies at University, wanting to get more under the skin of the places I had developed an interest in and of course learn the language. I’ve been fortunate enough to see a lot of Latin America, most recently on an overland trip all the way through Central America. I’ve visited Cuba, Venezuela, Chile, Argentina, Brazil, Mexico, Belize, Honduras, Guatemala, El Salvador, Nicaragua, Costa Rica, Panama and Colombia, so there are still a few places on my list!
Favourite places I've been
- Handgliding over Rio de Janeiro is one of the most exhilarating experiences you can do, landing right on the beach! Glide past Christ the Redeemer, get a bird's-eye view of Sugarloaf mountain and the favelas. A whole new perspective on this vibrant city!
- Wherever possible, take time out to explore new cities on foot, you get a much better feel for the city and learn the lay of the land. You’ll see a lot more than you would in a car, and you might meet more of the locals!
- Try to switch off and live in the moment. Travelers often spend too long on email or social media and miss out on things around them. Go offline and you’ll see and hear more. Don’t live behind the lens when you are away, let your eyes make memories too!
