My love for travel started very early on, I remember being a young child and defiantly telling my parents that as soon as I got the chance I was moving away somewhere exotic. My love of experiencing new places and the cultures that came with them only grew with age and prompted me to study Spanish and Portuguese at University.

This gave me the opportunity to live in Buenos Aires and Rio de Janeiro for year, it was then that my love affair with Latin America really started and before I knew it I was heading straight back over there as soon as I graduated. Living in Buenos Aires opened my eyes to one of the most beautiful and geographically diverse countries I have ever been to. I just loved everything about the country from the innovative and exciting gastronomical scene in Buenos Aires to the spectacular Falls in Iguazu, to the creaking glaciers of El Calafate.

It was these 2 very happy years in Argentina which inspired me explore the rest of Latin America so I set off on a 5-month backpacking trip to Chile, Bolivia, Peru, Colombia, Panama, Costa Rica, Nicaragua, Guatemala, Belize, Mexico

Travel nuggets

  • Leave your watch behind…let things happen when they happen, just like the Latinos!

  • The color of the sea in Belize never ceases to amaze me… if you’re looking for scuba diving or snorkeling I couldn’t recommend the Belizean barrier reef enough. I was lucky enough to swim with huge sea and green turtles, nurse sharks & sting rays!

  • If you’re planning to go to the Chichi market in Guatemala, make sure you have some spare space in your bag. The last time I was there I bought enough woven table runners to fill another bag so if you’re anything like me, you’ll want to buy everything!

  • The Cayo district in Belize is heaven for wildlife lovers. Take the time to explore the jungle whether that’s just exploring the trails at The Lodge at Chaa Creek or going on a night drive with the local guides at Blancaneaux Lodge or Chan Chich.

My hot picks

Blancaneaux Lodge, Mountain Pine Ridge, Belize

Anyone who is a keen rider will love the stables, filled with Thoroughbred horses. Take your pick of a ride through the jungle or a gallop on the open savannah before a picnic & swim in the natural pools at Black Rock Falls.

Cayo Espanto, Ambergris Caye, Belize

Located on a private island just off Ambergris Caye in Belize, Cayo Espanto is beautiful, understated and stylish as hell. With just 7 casas on the island, it is the definition of luxury, complete with personalized menus & 360 views of the Caribbean.

Posada del Angel, Antigua, Guatemala

As you walk into the candle adorned courtyard, you 'll be blown away by the beauty of the deep red washed walls against the striking cobalt blue of the pool. With only 6 suites, it feels particularly exculusive - just perfect for honeymooners.
