While the travel industry is a positive force for change supporting local economies and communities, at Scott Dunn we also appreciate that the industry is a major contributor to global carbon emissions. To help minimise our impact on the environment we have worked across our global offices to devise a carbon management strategy to offset the carbon we produce by supporting projects that both protect the environment and help to improve lives.
Our partnership with ClimateCare
As part of this strategy, we are delighted to announce our partnership with carbon offsetting experts, ClimateCare, who have over two decades of experience running some of the world’s largest and most innovative carbon offsetting programmes. Since 1997, ClimateCare and its partners have cut over 33 tonnes of CO2 from the atmosphere and improved the quality of life for over 34 million people around the world.
How does ClimateCare achieve carbon offsetting?
ClimateCare use their extensive experience to ensure that carbon emissions are offset by designing and funding projects across the world that ensure an equal amount of carbon is either absorbed by the atmosphere or is reduced elsewhere.
For example, ClimateCare is responsible for two world-leading clean cooking projects in Kenya and Ghana which aim to reduce carbon emissions and improve lives. Tragically, indoor air pollution caused by cooking on open fires and inefficient stoves kills more people than malaria.
The Burns stove project in Kenya has introduced the Jikokoa clean cooking stove that cuts emissions, reduces exposure to toxic fumes and also lowers fuel bills by as much as $300 per year. The project also provides employment opportunities in manufacturing, sales and distribution within the local community.
Similarly, in Ghana the Gyapa stoves project has provided skilled employment for 350 manufacturers, cut 2 million tonnes of CO2 from the atmosphere and saved more than 4 million people over $80 million on their fuel bills.
The Scott Dunn Carbon Offsetting Pledge
Scott Dunn has pledged to offset all staff international travel across our global offices from 2020 onwards. To achieve this, we work with ClimateCare to support these projects and others like it in the company’s portfolio.
