Culture and history

There's culture and tradition, relics, ancient stories and historical exhibits in every part of the world. We can tailor an adventure of discovery far off the beaten track or in the most ancient cities and settlements.

You could venture far from home to explore ancient temples, visit a wonder of the world, witness ancient tribes in action, or even take part in a spiritual ceremony. Or, you could explore the history and culture of places a little closer to home – every corner of the world has its own traditions and stories to tell.

We can create a customized cultural adventure of any kind – from taking your children to the Egyptian pyramids, to exploring India’s sacred cities. The possibilities are endless, and no adventure is set in stone. The examples below are merely suggestions that can be tweaked and tailored into whatever you want. And these are just three ideas from an infinite pool. For your own, completely bespoke cultural adventure, contact our travel specialists

Idea 01: Experience Peru

How about a grand tour of Peru? You could start in Lima, the gastronomic capital of South America, for amazing seafood, before flying to Arequipa to explore epic landscapes and the Colca Canyon, one of the world’s deepest. Move on to Lake Titicaca, then take a train to Cuzco, crossing the vast altiplano, and explore Inca ruins and grand colonial architecture of this famous city. A visit to Machu Picchu is a must, and after this you could jet down to the Amazon basin for spectacular wildlife and encounters with indigenous tribes.

Idea 02: Complete Cambodia

Begin in Siem Reap, home to the mystical temples of Angkor Wat, where a private guide will help you unlock the mysteries. Or, you could see it from the sky in a hot air balloon. This could be followed with a drive into the Cambodian countryside for a one-night Temple Safari experience off the beaten track, before flying to Phnom Penh for the Grand Palace and National Museum. A visit to the Killing Fields is also a must, to understand the recent history of the Khmer Rouge regime. Perhaps you’d like to wind up with a relaxing stay on Cambodia’s unspoiled coast. Perfect.

Idea 03: Italy’s great cities

You don’t have to travel far to find yourself surrounded by historical relics and stories. Italy is brimming with culture – not to mention romance. Why not start in Venice where you can glide down the waterways, visit the magnificent Doges’ Palace or admire the Tintorettos in the Scuola di San Rocco. Next, explore Florence, home of the renaissance, before finishing in Rome, the ’Eternal City’, where you can wander through the Baroque squares of the old town, and take in the wondrous Forum and Colosseum.

Idea 04: Romance in Rajasthan

From the magnificent royal palaces to battle-scarred forts and bustling markets, Rajasthan is impossibly romantic. Explore Delhi on a rickshaw, before moving to Agra and the Taj Mahal. Spend a few days in Jaipur visiting ancient palaces and riding elephants, and then head to the rugged countryside for a while, before ending your journey in Udaipur, the most beautiful and romantic destinations in Rajasthan.

Idea 05: Journey through Sri Lanka

Experience culture in the ancient Buddhist heartland, the scenic highlands, the lush green tea plantations, and the stunning southern beaches. Start with a visit to the Cultural Triangle where the remains of various cities, temples and monuments date back over 2300 years. Continue via the cultural town of Kandy, explore the tea regions, go on safari, visit Galle’s fort, and head to the southern beaches for sunset over the sea.
