The renaissance of Méribel
Lodge SHL – first über chalet-style ski in/ski out lodge in Méribel
A brand new, luxury ski lodge is opening in January, which is set to raise the stakes when it comes to luxury chalet accommodation in the resort. Operated by a French family who run two five star hotels in Paris and Bordeaux, plus a vineyard in Bordeaux, Lodge SHL can sleep up to 15 in cleverly designed accommodation and is particularly suited to families or large groups looking to holiday together. The Lodge comes with its own butler/chef, indoor swimming pool and home cinema. And then there’s the wine cellar, which is built into the rock and houses an exquisite collection of the best wines in the world from Pétrus to Smith Haut Lafitte; which explains the seemingly inconspicuous name of the chalet - Lodge SHL - as in Smith Haut Lafitte, named after the family’s Bordeaux vineyard. We are delighted to offer this über-chalet, which opens to guests on 06 January 2013 and is still available over February half term and Easter. Please call us for more details.
Le Kaila – first five star hotel in Méribel
And that’s not all. The 42-room Le Kaila, is Méribel’s first five star hotel which is already attracting plenty of attention with its dedicated kids area, Nuxe Spa, gourmet restaurant and chic boutiques.
Saulire Express – first to the top of Courchevel from Méribel
And there’s plenty of news on the slopes too. The entire Saulire Express gondola has been upgraded and features a radically redesigned lift station and new entrance ramp at the front. Journey time has been cut by eight minutes to just 12 minutes with the capacity to carry 2,400 people per hour.
In Méribel-Mottaret, the new Plattières lift replaces the existing 28-year-old Plattières 1 and 2 gondolas. The first ten-seat gondola in the 3 Vallées, it can carry up to 40% more passengers, transporting up to 2,800 people per hour. Passengers will be whisked up 734m in just nine minutes, compared with a previous journey time of 22 minutes. The existing Plattières 3 gondola will continue running as before.
La Folie Douce – first time in Méribel
And finally, there’s a new player on the après ski scene. La Folie Douce Méribel has been built on the site of the old Choucas restaurant just below the mid-station of the Saulire Express and is the sister establishment to the existing and hugely popular Folie Douce in Val d’Isère and Val Thorens. Méribel après-ski will never be the same again…
