Life through a lens in Laos and Cambodia
Experience the stunning visual impact of day-to-day life in two of Asia’s most authentic locations, Laos and Cambodia. Visit the markets to photograph the exotic herbs and spices, observe vibrant daily life on the mighty Mekong, explore majestic temples to see the contrast of ancient grey stone against the bright orange of the monk’s robes, before capturing sunset over the iconic spires of Angkor Wat, either from the ground or from a helicopter.
Rare tweet in the Seychelles
Bird Island is a tiny island surrounded by aquamarine water, and located to the far north of the Seychelles. Whilst the lodge is simple in style with only 24 bungalows, the opportunities for an enthusiastic birdlife photographer are exceptional. With over 20 bird species including a million Sooty Terns at certain times of the year, this is the ultimate sandy haven in which to snap away.
Cherry blossom in Japan
A visit to Japan at any time of year is a photographer’s dream, with its ancient Zen temples, majestic historic castles, the might of Mount Fuji and the urban futurescapes of Tokyo and Osaka. But to visit in spring is to see Japan at its most iconic, with parks, city streets and rural landscapes awash with the blush-pink cherry blossoms.
Fireworks in Val d’Isere
Val d'Isere hosts a number of events throughout the season that include amazing fireworks. Photographing them, as the village and pistes behind are lit by the sparkling colors, is both fun and not easy! There are displays for Christmas, New Year, the Winter Sports spectacular in February and there's also a Daille Party in March with a torchlight descent and a display. We have eight luxury chalets in Val d'Isere, seven with private indoor pools, all are fully staffed and our guest can also take advantage of the fantastic Scott Dunn children's club in the village.
Nowhere on earth allows you to get quite so close to the wildlife as the Galapagos, making it heaven for wildlife photographers, especially for those close-up shots. You will seriously be able to impress your friends and family with incredible pictures of sealions, marine iguanas, giant tortoises, penguins and much more. Don't forget your underwater camera as well, for wonderful chances to photograph sea turtles, manta rays and brightly colored fish.
Guatemala and Belize
Guatemala with its riot of markets, smoking volcanoes, crater lakes and Mayan jungle temples is one of Latin America's most photogenic countries, especially so if you visit over Easter during Semana Santa, where colorful processions course through the streets of colonial Antigua. Combine this jewel of Central America with some down time in Belize for a memorable vacation, and some truly wonderful photographs.
Ibo Island Lodge
Ibo Island is a photographer’s paradise; bathed in a tropical light everything just glows. The island is full of crumbling municipal buildings, an old fort and grand ancient palaces. The island was a Portuguese stronghold and is full of history and character. You can find traditional silversmiths and marvel at their intricate work, vibrant markets in the central square and friendly Mozambique people in colorful traditional clothing wearing huge smiles.
Lamai Serengeti is a luxuriously rustic chic property nestled amongst the rocks of Kogakuria Kopje and built to blend in with its surroundings. The endless views stretch for miles. During the dry season marvel at the sight of thousands of wildebeest gathering on the banks of the Mara River preparing to make the adrenelin fuelled crossing, and at other times of year lose yourself in the lush green landscapes.
Nambia's Etosha Park
Ongava Lodge is located in its own private game reserve boarding the famous Etosha National Park in Namibia. In this way, game drives and walking can be done from the lodge in this private and exclusive concession. Alternatively, you can head into the main Etosha Park to see the stunning salt pans and iconic large lions, and take fabulous photos. The lodge is beautifully designed set on the edge of an escarpment with stunning views across the reserve from the rooms and main areas. Each room is fantastically comfortable with private decks and sunloungers to relax on during the day soaking up the sights and sounds of the bush.
Palio in Siena, staying at Castel Monastero
One of the most spectacular and colorful events in Italy is the Palio in Siena, a horserace in medieval dress around the city's main square that has taken place twice a year since the Middle Ages. Castel Monastero is a lovingly converted Tuscan castle in the countryside just outside Siena, but owns a suite with a balcony overlooking the Campo.
Santorini is well known for its outstanding natural beauty, its architecture and archaeological sites and is one of the natural wonders of the Aegean. Picturesque whitewashes towns and villages cling to the clifftops, and beaches composed of multicolored volcanic sand surround the island. The bustling main town of Thira boasts a good range of tavernas and gourmet restaurants, as well as classy bars where the jet set enjoy cocktails. Possibly one of the most famous views in the Aegean, is sunset over the volcanic crater of Santorini, a great place to catch this is from the boutique hotel of Santorini Grace.
Sunset over the Sahara Desert
As you arrive at your private camp, deep into the heart of Egypt's Western Desert, clamber up a nearby dune as the sun sets with your camera in hand for some truly stunning shots. Watch as the dunes create shadows and the desert merges with the red sky. The sun then lands on a far away sand dune and disappears into the night. Wander down from the dunes to a roaring fire, a gin and tonic and a table laid out ready for a sumptuous barbecue and a bottle of red wine.
The Matterhorn in Zermatt
On the border of Switzerland and Italy, the Matterhorn reaches 14,690 ft high, making it one of the highest peaks in the Alps. The four steep faces, rising above the surrounding glaciers, face the four compass points. This iconic peak holds court over the alpine resort of Zermatt, a lovely pedestrianised village offering access to fantastic skiing. We have four luxury chalets here, fully staffed and all with stunning views over the Matterhorn.
In the heart of the Indian Jungle, while on the back of an elephant, get your long lens out as you might only have a second to capture one of the rarest sights in nature, a tiger. Stay at Banjaar Tola, situated on the banks of the Banjaar River, it overlooks the lush forests and grassy meadows of Kanha National Park.
Underwater treasures in Tikehau
It was in the lagoon at Tikehau that Jacques Cousteau said that he encountered more fish than in any other part of the South Pacific...so grab your underwater camera and get snap happy amidst the abundant underwater marine life in this tropical paradise. From July to December, Manta Rays display their graceful dance in these waters as well.
