A trip to Sri Lanka would not be complete with out a stay at the fantastic Kahanda Kanda, a beautiful property set on a tea estate near Galle. The decor and deign of the property is beautifully precise thanks to it's proprietor the British interior designer George Cooper who is often here to entertain his guests. The gardens here are lush, a bird spotters paradise, the public areas delicious indulgent and the five rooms detailed and homely.

Before heading north, stay in Galle for a couple of nights at Amangalla, a wonderful historic hotel, refurbished to 21st century standards, maintaining every inch of it's colonial charm. A great spot from which to explore Galle's historic Fort, museums, and wonderful shops.
