Description
Our grand tour of Peru offers discerning guests the chance to experience Peru in grand style. Begin by flying to Lima, the gastronomic capital of South America to stay at the Miraflores Park Hotel, ideally located overlooking the Pacific Ocean. Enjoy some superlative seafood and take in a traditional pena in the trendy Barranco district.
Next fly to Arequipa nestled in a beautiful valley at the foot of El Misti volcano. Arequipa is a useful place to begin acclimatisation, but is also interesting to explore in its own right. The highlight being the Santa Catalina convent.
From here you will be driven through epic landscapes to the Colca Canyon, one of the world’s deepest, where there is an excellent chance of seeing giant condors riding the thermals. Stay at the Orient Express Casitas del Colca for 2 nights.
Continue to Lake Titicaca to stay 3 nights at the wonderful Titilaka, a luxury lodge with gorgeous views over the lake and towards the Cordillera Real. While here, be sure to visit the floating reed islands of the Uros Indians.
For many, the train to Cuzco is a real highlight, as you cross the vast altiplano. Arriving in Cuzco, check in to La Casona, Cuzco’s swishest hotel, a meticulously restored former convent, and enjoy the cultural heritage of this famous city. Spectacular Inca ruins, grand colonial architecture and some great museums are all within easy reach.
Continue by the luxury Hiram Bingham train to Machu Picchu to witness this magical site, staying at the Sanctuary Lodge located right by the ruins, before returning to the Sacred Valley to relax at the Rio Sagrado amongst beautiful rural scenery and traditional Andean villages.
Finally jet down to the Amazon basin to board the M/V Aqua, a superbly luxurious small expedition vessel that plies the remoter reaches of the Amazon. Fantastic wildlife viewing and encounters with indigenous tribes as well as memorable sunsets provide a fitting climax to this journey of a lifetime.
Fly back to Lima before returning overnight home.

When to travel
April to October is best for time for visiting Peru’s Andean region and main highlights. It is typically sunny in the day and cold at night due to the altitude. Heavy rains last from December to end of February with January and February being the wettest months. The Amazon is generally hot, wet and humid year round. Peru is very popular in the high season, especially during their many cultural festivals such as Inti Raymi on 24 June, so best to plan well in advance.
