Description

South Australia and Victoria are often dismissed by travellers to Australia, as seemingly they don’t have any of the icons such as ‘the rock’ or ‘the reef’. However, if you take time to explore, you will uncover the natural beauty and breathtaking scenery on offer.

Not forgetting that the Adelaide Hills produce some of the best ‘New World’ wines, start at The Louise, a great base to explore these vineyards and sample finest local produce.

Fly down to Kangaroo Island, effectively one huge nature reserve. It is a remote and rugged wilderness buffeted by the sea and packed with all the wildlife you can wish to see. A new and much welcomed addition to the area is the stunning Southern Ocean Lodge. The first luxury lodge of its kind in Australia, superb facilities and excellent service combine with an awesome cliff top location. A private guide will take you to explore the island and if you are into wildlife photography, this is definitely the place for you.

Flying back to Adelaide, you pick up your hire car and embark on one of the world’s most iconic drives. The Great Ocean Road is spectacularly beautiful and stopping in Oscars and then Moonlight Head only enhances this journey. Enjoy freshly caught seafood at Oscars and at Moonlight Head luxuriate in the stunning eco-architecture house and wake up to hundreds of wallabies right outside your window. Go riding through the deserted Great Otway National Park or visit the 12 Apostles. Apart from the many outdoor activities, listen to the locals stories and history of this infamous ‘shipwreck coast’.

Finally, drive up to Melbourne, the cosmopolitan and cultural capital of Australia. With the cobbled streets and café culture, this is a great transition back to the real world after the great open spaces of your holiday.
