Description
Fly to Shanghai, where you will be met and driven to Amanfayun, hidden in a picturesque valley on the outskirts of Hangzhou. Once described by Marco Polo as “The City of Heaven”, Hangzhou is still today regarded as the most beautiful city in China due to its tranquil West Lake, countless pagodas, historic temples, botanical gardens and vast wetland areas. Included in your stay are two private guided tours of the area and a reflexology treatment for two.
Then fly up to Beijing, the vibrant capital of China for a completely different experience. Aman at the Summer Palace is housed in a series of pavilions, some of which date back over a century and were originally used by guests of the Palace awaiting an audience with the Empress Dowager Cixi. Included in your stay in Beijing is a private guided tour of the Summer Palace, a private guided tour of the Forbidden City and a Chinese massage for two.
Itinerary
When to travel
In China weather is generally warm and humid, with four distinct seasons - a pleasant warm spring, a hot rainy summer, a comfortable cool autumn and a cold winter. The hottest time in China comes in July and August, with more than 10 days at temperatures above 35 C. The coldest time is from the late January to early February. The spring from March to May is recommended as the best time to travel to China. Summer which also sees heavy rainstorms late in the season is surprisingly the peak season, when hotels typically raise their rates and the Great Wall nearly collapses under the weight of marching tourists. Air pollution can be intolerable in both summer and winter.
