Description

Begin your journey in the colonial city of Lima before flying to Arequipa, nestled in a beautiful valley at the foot of El Misti volcano. From here you will be driven to the spectacular Colca Canyon, passing snow-capped mountains, lush terraced valleys and Indian villages. The Colca Lodge is a small rustic lodge set in the mountains with breathtaking views over the canyon. From nearby Condor Cross, you can watch condors soar gracefully through the air.

Continue by road to Puno on the shores of the sacred Lake Titicaca where you can visit the famed floating reed islands of the Uros Indians. Then board the Orient-Express operated Andean Explorer for a fascinating train ride through the Andean altiplano to Cuzco. This enchanting city has colourful market stalls, great museums and architecture from the colonial and Inca eras.

From Cuzco you will travel to the ’Lost City’ of Machu Picchu, nestled high on a cloud-draped ridge and shrouded in mystery. Explore these incredible ruins whilst staying at the only hotel located within the sanctuary of Machu Picchu itself. Expert guides will bring to life the history of one of the Inca’s greatest legacies.

Finish in the serene Sacred Valley, staying in a charming property near Urubamba, a perfect place to relax or explore the surrounding markets, villages and mountains.

When to travel

April to October is best for time for visiting Peru’s Andean region and main highlights. It is typically sunny in the day and cold at night due to altitude. Heavy rains last from December to end of February with January and February being the wettest months. Peru is very popular in the high season, especially during their many cultural festivals such as Inti Raymi on 24 June, so best to book well in advance.
