Description
There is nowhere in the world quite like Cuba which has an extraordinary turbulent history, years of self-sufficiency under communist rule and a unique Afro-Latin culture. The largest and most vibrant city in the Caribbean, Havana, is a living museum with churches, theatres, crumbling pastel-coloured facades, art galleries and Spanish colonial architecture. Every corner has a story to tell. Havana’s narrow cobblestone streets conjure up images of glory and grandeur as well as a communist country with many of its own struggles and the continuing US embargo. Stay at the Saratoga, which has a great position in the old town.
From historic Havana drive to the south coast to explore quaint Trinidad, one of the finest colonial towns in all of the Americas, with its cobblestone streets, pastel-coloured 18th and 19th-century houses, crumbling palaces, and plazas. Magically frozen in time, the old folks still watch passers-by from their windows decked with wrought-iron grilles.
Drive back to Havana for a final night in this fascinating city before flying home the following day.
Cuba is not a country that should be visited if you are looking for luxurious hotels and a high level of service however it is a greatly rewarding destination and absolutely fascinating culturally.
