Description

Explore the Okavango Delta on horseback, and get incredibly close to game. There are 3 camps to ride between, so you are covering fresh ground.

Kujwana Camp is situated on the Xudum River southwest of Chief’s Island. The camp accommodates a maximum of 10 guests in spacious safari tents, each with a bush-style bathroom. Explore the three main river systems in this area: the Xudum, Matsebi and the Kiri.

Moklowane Camp is situated on the Matsebi River and consists of tree houses raised two metres off the ground, giving guests the opportunity to experience sleeping safely in the open air. Ablutions are on ground level with bucket shower and flush loo behind each tree house.

Kiri Fly Camp is northeast of Kujwana Camp in the permanent water line of the delta. The camp is temporary and the site moves according to access and water levels. Deep lagoons and papyrus beds make this a good area for hippo and lechwe, as well as buffalo and other big game. The camp consists of walk-in dome tents, private ablutions and a mess tent.

We only recommend Okavango Horse Safaris for experienced riders.

Location and directions

Okavango Delta, Botswana

Okavango Horse Safaris provide the opportunity to experience the magic of the Okavango Delta on horseback, staying at Kujwana Camp on the Xudum River southwest of Chief’s Island, Moklowane Camp on the Matsebi River and Kiri Fly Camp northeast of Kujwana Camp in the permanent water line of the delta. The camp is temporary and the site moves according to access and water levels. From there to Duba Plains Camp, located in the northern reaches of the Okavango Delta. Then finally on to San Camp, situated on the edge of the vast and mysterious Makgadikgadi Salt Pans, the remnant of an extinct super lake that once covered most of Botswana.

How to get there

The nearest international airport is Maun, which is an 11-hour international flight to Johannesburg, followed by a 2-hour international flight. You are met at Maun Airport by a Okavango representative and transferred by light aircraft to Xudum airstrip, a 25-minute flight. You are then driven into the camp by vehicle, which takes approximately 1-hour (Game viewing). Alternatively you could be transferred by light aircraft to Xaxaba Airstrip where you would be met by the helicopter, a 10-minute scenic flight bringing you directly into camp.
