Description
Taking the family to New Zealand does not need to be as hard as many imagine. Air New Zealand now fly direct with a short stop in Hong Kong, allowing you to jump off the plane with your family to break up the journey and get them used to the different time zone. Enjoy the splendours of the colourful markets and introduce your children to traditional Asian food.
Continue your flight to New Zealand with the thought of arriving to the enjoyment of your own private pool whilst staying at Eagles Nest. Take a boat around the Bay of Islands for the day, dive off into the warm waters and collect scallops and muscles to throw onto the barbeque for your lunch. The Bay of Islands is also full of playful dolphins where you can often see pods of over 100 swimming alongside your boat.
Fly south to Rotorua, the geothermal heart of New Zealand. Spend time learning about the rich Maori culture so prevalent in Rotorua and enjoy the spectacles of the boiling mud pools and spouting geysers. You stay here is at Treetops Lodge and Estate, a fantastic family-friendly property at the heart of an enormous country estate. Spend your days exploring the vast wilderness surrounding you, taking walks, riding horses and fishing.
Next stop is the South Island and the fabulous Hapuku Lodge where your children will be able to experience staying in a tree house, albeit a very luxurious one. Kaikoura is a haven for outdoor family fun, starting with whale watching and moving onto swimming with dolphins, which really is a once in a lifetime experience. For those that are not keen on being in or on the sea you can take a small plane to view the whales or even stay on dry land to visit the huge seal colonies that cover this coast line.
To finish off this fabulous family holiday, head south to Queenstown, New Zealand’s largest playground for all ages. Take a jet boat ride down narrow river gorges, bungy jump off a bridge, enjoy a stunning helicopter flight over the beautiful glaciers or take a more sedate boat trip on Queenstown’s Lake Wakatipu. Stay in the lap of luxury at Eichardt's Private Hotel, in one of their fantastic Family Lakefront Cottages, with plenty of space for everyone right in the heart of vibrant Queenstown.
