Description

Riad El Fenn, where you’ll spend your first 3 nights, hides behind a vast ornate wooden door in the heart of Marrakech. The rooms are expansive and Moorish in style – we suggest booking one of the suites with a private terrace and plunge pool for added decadence. If you can tear yourself away from the leafy courtyard or the hammam, you’ll find yourself in the main town square in seconds, where you can browse the souks, haggling as you go; and explore the old fortress city. Away from the buzz of Marrakech, your next stop is Kasbah Tamadot, Richard Branson’s luxury retreat, for 3 nights in the Atlas Mountains. This authentic boutique property is pitched above a steep river valley, with amazing views towards Jebel Toubkal, the highest peak in North Africa. While here, mountain bike through the dramatic scenery, explore the local Berber villages, and take as many dips as you can in the outdoor horizon pool overlooking the rugged hills.

Itinerary

When to travel

Weather-wise, the best times to go are spring and autumn, when temperatures are 20°C to 25°C by day and at least 10°C by night, and November to February, with cooler nights but similar daytime temperatures and light rainfall possible. The weather in March and April features sporadic, light rainfall with some sandstorms in April, while June sees dusty siroccos (desert winds) sweep through the city. From mid-June to August temperatures rise into the 30s and occasionally 40s.
