South Luangwa National Park sits at the heart of the Zambian wilderness with some of the best game viewing you’ll find anywhere in Africa. As well as traditional 4WD safaris, the area is renowned for the quality of its walking safaris as well as for the majestic Luangwa River, which flows along its length.
Having flown overnight to Lusaka you will continue to Mfuwe from where you can access the park. Spend a few nights at Nkwali Camp, owned and run by the highly experienced Robin Pope Safaris. You’ll be looked after by some of the best guides in the business as you explore the river, lagoons and plains and, at night, you’ll sleep in comfortable and spacious thatched rooms.
From Mfuwe there is a direct flight to Lilongwe where you will connect with a transfer to Pumulani, situated on Lake Malawi's southern shore. Pumulani is Nkwali's sister-camp, also run by Robin Pope Safaris, and is set on a gentle slope overlooking the lake. Enormous and luxurious bedrooms each have a view, and their position means that the lake's cooling breezes can pass through. Pumulani has its own dhow, and guests can enjoy sunset cruises across the lake, stopping for a swim if they wish. Other activities offer include snorkelling in the crystal clear waters of the lake, sailing, fishing, waterskiing and scuba diving. For those who wish to stay on dry land, walks to local villages are offered, and birdwatching excursions. Or just relax in Pumulani's spectacular surroundings and enjoy Malawi's hospitality.

When to travel
Both Zambia and Malawi have a moderate to sub-tropical climate with three distinct seasons: from November to March is the Emerald, or the rainy season, April to July is winter, when the weather is cool and dry, and August to October is summer, when the weather is hot and dry. In terms of game-viewing, the dryer months, meaning a higher concentration of game at the permanent water sources, are a superb time to visit. Alternatively come for some superb bird-watching at the end of the rains.

How to get there
10-hour international flight to Kenneth Kaunda International Airport, Lusaka. After a 70-minute flight from Lusaka, you arrive at Mfuwe Airport where you are met for a transfer to camp, which takes approximately 40-minutes.
