Your journey begins in Bora Bora, part of the Society Archipelago. Bora Bora is considered to be the most beautiful island in French Polynesia because of its extraordinary scenery. The island consists of a mountainous centre surrounded by a magnificent blue lagoon, which in turn is enclosed by sand-fringed motus (small islets) sitting on the outer reef. Stay at the Bora Bora Pearl Beach Resort, located on one of the motus, and immerse yourself in the peace and tranquillity of your surroundings. Take in the views of the world renowned Mount Otemanu from the comfort of your over-water bungalow, or take a trip across the turquoise lagoon and climb it!
Next you will fly to Tikehau in the Tuamotu Archipelago. The atolls of the Taumotus offer a very different kind of experience. This huge archipelago stretches across the north-eastern approaches to Tahiti and consists of low-lying necklaces of motus enclosing crystal clear lagoons. Tikehau’s nearly circular lagoon (16 miles across) is full of colourful tropical fish, which makes it great for snorkelling and novice divers. It is also home to many black pearl farms (the territory’s second largest industry). Tikehau’s only village, Tuherahera, is one of the most picturesque in the Taumotus due to the magnificent frangipani, hibiscus, bougainvillea and other flowers that seem to grow everywhere! Here you will immerse yourself in ‘barefoot chic’ at the Tikehau Pearl Beach Resort where your beach bungalow will be just steps from the glorious crystal clear lagoon.
Some must dos:
Bora Bora: snorkel, scuba dive, feed black tip reef sharks, play in ray alley, 4x4 jeep safari up Mount Otemanu and taste the local fish delicacies at the world famous Bloody Mary’s Restaurant.
Tikehau: snorkel and scuba dive in the magnificent Tuheiava Pass, visit a black pearl farm, tour Tikehau by bicycle and explore the village Tuherahera.
