Description
Begin by flying into Mexico City to stay 2 nights at the superb Las Alcobas, a small luxury hotel excellently located in the city’s Polanco district. Try a meal at their outstanding Barroco restaurant run by top Mexican chef Maria Ortiz.
Then venture into the little-known state of Colima to stay at one of Mexico’s most glorious haciendas, the Hacienda de San Antonio. Set beneath the dramatic smoking cone of Colima volcano, this historic grand estate is balm for the soul. By day wander through peaceful gardens with fountains, drink in the extraordinary views by the pool, saddle up on a thoroughbred horse for a ride you will never forget, enjoy a private tour of the hacienda’s mountain coffee estate, or visit one of the impossibly pretty nearby colonial villages. Return in the evening to perfectly made margaritas and serious gourmet cooking.
Finish with a stay at visionary Cuixmala, perched sublimely above the Pacific Ocean. This temple to outstanding service and unashamed luxury is an alluring mixture of Mexican and Moorish design, and offers access to Mexico’s most gorgeous and least discovered beaches. You can snorkel here, take a trip in the hotel’s private sailing yacht, see turtles haul themselves up onto the beach to lay eggs, catch some great surf, or even take a safari in the state’s private game reserve.
