Description

This exciting journey takes you to the wildlife and flood plains of the beautiful Okavango Delta.

Sandibe is located in the south east corner of the delta, on the borders of the Moremi Game Reserve. It offers a different experience of the area, situated in dense riverine forest, dotted with palm trees and vast baobabs. These forest areas are encircled by floodplains and deep channels, where boat trips can be taken. This concession is well known for its migrant elephant population, which often come to visit the camp.

The camp overlooks a permanent waterway, fringed by papyrus reeds, and surrounded by dense forest filled with wildlife. The main area is large and high-ceilinged, with a resident family of epauletted fruit bats hanging from the rafters. Elephant, hippo and baboons are often seen in camp. The lodge has a small plunge pool near the main area, surrounded by a mopane fence. Your activities here include day and night 4X4 game drives in open vehicles, mokoro trips and nature walks in the bush, and boat trips. The lodge has a unique electric boat which is almost completely silent, allowing guests to drift through the waterways without disturbing the wildlife.

From Sandibe, you will then journey west into the heart of the magical Okavango Delta to stay at Sandibe’s sister-camp, Nxabega, for two nights. Situated in a private concession, Nxabega is west of Chief’s Island and is surrounded by a variety of environments from grasslands dotted with palm islands, mopane woodlands and the water habitats: from lily-covered lagoons to the deeper, papyrus-lined channels.

The camp itself is shaded by towering ebony trees and is thoughtfully and comfortably designed with locally crafted furniture and polished wooden floors. The feel is one of understated luxury and craftsmanship. The main area is divided into several separate areas, each on a different level and offering a variety of secluded seating areas. The tents are large, each overlooking the floodplain in front of camp, raised on wooden decks.

While here you can choose from day and night 4X4 game drives, bush walks with a guide, trips in the motor boat on the deeper water channels and mokoro trips. Elephant are frequent visitors here, along with giraffe and several species of antelope, and leopard and lion can sometimes be seen slinking through the dense bush. The area lends itself beautifully to birding, with over 450 species to be found, including notables such as painted snipe, pink-backed pelican, malachite kingfisher and a variety of raptors and waterbirds.
