Description
Begin by flying to Santiago and transfer to the Colchagua Valley to stay at Lapostolle Residence, Chile’s finest wine lodge. With just four sumptuously appointed casitas set into the hillside overlooking the vineyards, a very personal wine experience is guaranteed. Enjoy the award-winning wines, see the estate’s high-tech and architecturally extraordinary filtration and fermentation process in action, take a thrilling horse ride with the Chilean gauchos, or simply relax with superb food in the serenely beautiful surroundings.
Fly from Santiago to Calama on head to the simply breathtaking Atacama Desert, staying in the pretty oasis town of San Pedro de Atacama. Your base for three nights is Awasi, a superb boutique retreat with the warmest of welcomes and wonderful service. Each day, expert guides will take you out by private 4 x 4 to experience the wonders of the desert. Discover high-altitude lakes of shimmering turquoise, flamingo-dotted saltpans that seem to stretch to infinity, powerful geyser fields, unearthly rock formations and tiny Atacamena villages lost in time.
Continue to the Chilean Lake District to stay 3 nights at Quincho Country Home, and elegant and extremely private small gourmet hotel with impressive views across Lake Llanquihue towards conical Osorno volcano. This region is in the heart of the Andes, and has shimmering lakes, rushing waterfalls, 3,000-year-old trees and beautiful mountain scenery. It is a country made for outdoors activities and with your guide you will have privileged access to the very best the area has to offer.
The climax of your journey is Torres del Paine National Park, located deep in southern Patagonia. The awe-inspiring landscapes of mighty granite towers, vast glaciers and deep emerald lakes are amongst the finest anywhere on Earth, and we have suggested staying at the renowned Explora Patagonia, set on the shore of Lake Pehoe with jaw-dropping views across to the massif. This is superb walking and riding country, and many of the activities and excursions here are based around these two activities. There are also wonderful 4 x 4 trips, boat rides to the glaciers and even mountaineering options. It is easy to feel humbled by such majesty.
Return to Santiago for a final night staying at one of the city’s top hotels, the Ritz Carlton, and enjoy a final evening meal before returning home next day.
