Description

Arrive in the pulsating city of Rio and begin with 3 nights at the beautiful Hotel Santa Teresa, located in Rio’s bohemian Santa Teresa district, with its old-time atmosphere and panoramic views. Explore the city’s wonders and beaches by day, and go out to enjoy the city’s wonderful culinary and music scene by night.

From Rio travel by private car along Brazil’s Emerald Coast to Porto Real for the boat across to the verdant tropical island of Ilha Grande with its coves and unspoilt beaches. Stay at the simple but charming Sagu Mini Resort for 4 nights, from where you can relax and take in the picture-postcard views, take boat trips to the local beauty spots, trek into the island’s forested interior or snorkel amongst multicoloured fish.

Finish up with 3 nights in the fascinating town of Paraty, whose historic centre has been awarded UNESCO World Heritage status for its beautifully preserved Portuguese colonial architecture and winding cobbled streets. Your stay here is at the Pousada do Ouro, a delightful and superbly located guesthouse, from where you can enjoy an easygoing life at some of Paraty’s bars and restaurants, or venture further afield to one of the bay’s many islands with more idyllic beaches.

When to travel

The best time of year to visit is from October to April, when temperatures are hot and the sea warm. Do bear in mind that rainfall in this part of Brazil is spread quite evenly throughout the year, but the sunshine is never far away. If travelling over Christmas/New Year or over Carnival, be sure to book well in advance as space is very tight over these periods.
