Description

Beijing is a vast metropolis and home to over 12 million people. Having been the capital city of both Imperial and Modern China, it has a fantastic collection of sights and your time here will be spent visiting these including the vast Tiananmen Square, Forbidden City, the Hutongs (the small lanes and courtyard houses of old Beijing), the magnificent Temple of Heaven and the Imperial Summer Palace to marvel at the opulence in which the Emperors lived. You can visit a remote part of the Great Wall of China and take a four-hour hike along an unreconstructed part of the wall. In the evenings retire to the opulent Peninsula Palace hotel.

Fly onto Xian, the ancient capital, where the main attraction is to experience the incredible life size Army of Terracotta Warriors standing guard over the tomb of Emperor Qin Shihuang. During in your time in Xian you will also visit the impressive Shaanxi Museum, Wild Goose Pagoda, The Islamic Quarter and even take an exhilarating bicycle ride along the old city walls. This is a charming east meets west town and the new Sofitel hotel is a refreshing way to end the days here.

Fly to Shanghai to uncover the spectacular contrast between the traditional, colonial Bund and the modern, cutting edge Pudong. The Peninsular is a spectacular city hotel from which to base yourself, as you take day trips out to explore the traditional water village of Suzhou, and enjoy the incredible dining experiences that Shanghai is famed for.

We would recommend one of our excellent private guides throughout to help you explore this fascinating country to its full potential.

From Shanghai fly to Hong Kong and enjoy 2 nights in this exciting city. Admire the views from Kowloon back over to Hong Kong Island, take the tram up the Victoria Peak or shop until your heart is content. Stay at the Peninsula on Kowloon, a landmark since 1928.

This is a suggested itinerary and can be tailored to suit your individual needs, perhaps supplemented with a few night at the stunning Amanfayun in nearby Hangzhou.
