Description
Nepal has always been independent of greater India, and has retained much of its charming culture and customs. It is a Mecca for those who adore classical mountain views in a sophisticated tourist infrastructure.
Your journey begins in Kathmandu, home to mediaeval architecture and a multitude of shopping opportunities. The Dwarikas Hotel is like a museum of artefacts brought together in a traditional, yet luxurious outer shell. An early morning flight around Everest is always a highlight, as you will be able to see most of the highest mountains in the world before breakfast!
You will then be driven to Pokhara to begin your walk into the Annapurna range. This short walk around the foothills is an opportunity to trek in comfort and discover the local way of life and the fabulous Annapurna range. Throughout your trek you will have the full support of a Ker and Downey guide and porter who care for your every need. The walking pace can be as slow or fast as you like and there are only a few mildly challenging ascents.
Day one is just a couple of hour’s walk to Sanctuary Lodge, a peaceful retreat situated on the banks of the river. The second day will take you to Gandruk, famous as the major recruitment centre for British Gurkhas and a village blessed with incredible mountain vistas. Two nights here gives you the opportunity to explore the area further or simply relax in the beautiful surroundings. The final day’s trek will lead you to Gurung Lodge, the most luxurious of the Ker and Downey lodges, again with magnificent views of the Annapurnas .
Following your trek you will be driven to Pokhara, where you can spend a couple of days relaxing at the Tiger Mountain Pokhara Lodge. With its fantastic views and infinity swimming pool, it is the perfect place to rest those stiff muscles.
From Pokhara you will be driven to the Seti River to begin your trip downstream aboard your raft to the Seti River camp, a blissful and remote camp located within the mountains just a stones throw from the river. There is no electricity but you will be well looked after by the Ker and Downey staff making this a truly unique experience in the Himalayas. The water is relatively calm and there are only a few rapids, meaning that the trip is accessible to anyone.
The river rafting takes you half way to Chitwan National Park and you will then continue the journey by car. For two days and nights at the Temple Tiger Camp you will have the opportunity to search for the Royal Bengal Tiger, rhinos, and other wildlife, from the safety of your own elephant!
The drive back to Kathmandu is around 4 hours and flying is an alternative option. After a night at the Hyatt you will fly home to London via Delhi.
