Description

Combine the highlights of Uruguay with neighbouring Buenos Aires for the perfect get-away.

Fly overnight to cosmopolitan Buenos Aires on British Airways for a 3-night stay at stylish boutique hotel Nuss located in the neighbourhood of Palermo.

With so much to see and do in the Argentine capital you will be spoilt for choice. Wander through the bustling Sunday antiques market in old San Telmo, cheer for the Boca Juniors at a football match, do like the Argentines and enjoy a lazy wine-fuelled lunch, discover chic new designers in the boutiques of Recoleta and by night take a tango class at one of the many milongas, head to one of the city's hip night spots or die and go to heaven sampling the best steak you've ever tasted at one of the city's famous parrilla restaurants.

From Buenos Aires, Uruguay is only a stone's throw away. Take the fast catamaran across the River Plate estuary to Colonia, a pocket of tranquillity in contrast to the buzz of Buenos Aires. Wander through this pretty former Portuguese riverside town and UNESCO world heritage site, with its winding cobblestone alleyways and colonial houses. From Colonia, you'll be driven to the Four Season's Carmelo for an indulgent 3 night stay.

At the Four Seasons Carmelo you'll find slick Four Seasons service, top notch golf, riding, a fabulous spa and huge outdoor pool, all on the white sand banks of the Rio de la Plata.

From Carmelo head inland to the ultra-luxury Estancia Vik. Designed by Marcelo Daglio, this estancia has the wow-factor. Each suite has been decorated by a different Uruguayan artist and incorporates state-of-the-art technology. It has a huge outdoor pool from where you can relax, unwind and take in the incredible vistas. With 4,000 acres of private land, it's own polo fields and criollo horses, there's no better place to take a polo lesson or go horse riding gaucho-style, take long walks, go biking, play tennis or simply be pampered.

After enjoying all the activities on offer at Vik, continue with a short drive to the coast, to the effortlessly cool Uruguayan village of Jose Ignacio, often likened to St Tropez or the Hampton's, where the local glitterati hangout and cool beach bars abound. You will be staying at Casa Suaya just outside, a unique boutique hotel set on the beach where you'll be welcomed like old friends. Neighbouring Punta del Este has grown quickly, along with its popularity with the it-crowd of South America but Jose Ignacio has preserved much of its laid back charm.

Enjoy leisurely late lunches, take long beach walks, surf, sail, explore the amazing sand dunes of Cabo Polonio and sip delicious cocktails by the pool. The food at Casa Suaya is known for its kitchen run by chef Clo Dimet, so indulge in romantic candlelit dinners sampling local specialities such as braised lamb and sweet potatoes, and for those keen to carry on into the night, the exclusive parties of Punta del Este are just a taxi ride away.

Drive back to Montevideo and fly via Buenos Aires back to London.
