Description

This tour includes a private driver/guide in a 4-wheel drive vehicle covering some of Oman’s most remarkable destinations and getting to the very heart of this superb country.

Your first two nights are spent acclimatising in the Chedi Hotel where you can visit the local Muttrah souk where you will smell the spices and see silver jewellery draped over colourful stalls. The journey down the coast towards Sur is a spectacular one, with the dramatic Hajar mountains to your right and the untouched beaches and glistening blue sea to your left. En route you will find untouched wadis to explore, with their fast flowing streams and lush vegetation lying at the foot of towering gorges.

You will then stop in Sur, a small and picturesque fishing village before heading on to the Turtle beach at Ras Al-Jinz. A state of the art eco-tourism facility has recently opened featuring rooms, a museum and 3D Ocean Experience. The rooms offer the best, albeit modest, accommodation in the area and is perfectly located for the evening trip to watch turtles laying eggs and the early morning trip to see the hatching of the eggs.

From Ras Al-Jinz, on to the rolling sand dunes of the Wahiba Sands. After some exhilarating dune driving, you will arrive at the Desert Nights Camp. You will then drive into the mountains around Nizwa. The Jebel Akhdar (meaning Green Mountains) offer a perfect day trip. You will pass ancient villages which are built on rolling terraces winding down the hillside. Near the summit, you will find the Wadi Ghul, which has a sheer drop of the kilometre on either side - the views are simply stunning. Nizwa itself contains a superb fort and an excellent souk – best explored on Fridays when the locals come from all around to sell their livestock.

The following morning head back towards Muscat, stopping along the way at interesting towns and villages.
