A Family Adventure to Oman is recommended for

Description

Oman offers hugely diverse experiences that all the family will enjoy; it is only 7 hours from the UK and makes for an excellent winter break. Oman is best visited during February Half Term, Easter, October Half Term and Christmas and a balanced blend of adventure and relaxation will ensure all the family return fascinated with this corner of the Middle East.

Begin in Muscat, and the Shangri La Hotel which offers interconnecting family rooms, an excellent kids club and a long sandy beach. The children will love the adventure zone, the lazy river and heading out snorkelling.

Drive down the coast, stopping at Wadi Bani Khalid where you can go for a swim in its deep pools. You arrive at your camp in the Wahiba Sands before heading off dune bashing in your 4x4. The next day head off to visit a Bedouin Settlement and a camel farm. Return to the camp and take a camel ride into the dunes at sunset.

The next day, we will take you to see some camel racing before driving cross country to Sinew. You can visit the local ruins before driving to Nizwa where you can explore the fort and the livestock market on Fridays, as well as taking a trip to the Al Hoota Caves before heading up the mountains to your camp for the night.

Next morning, head back to Nizwa to see the cattle and goat market which is famous in these parts. You enjoy a stroll around the stunning ruins of Misfah Al Breen before heading back into the mountains for an afternoon of walking or driving around this stunning canyon line scenery.

Your final three days are spent relaxing at the Shangri La Hotel before returning to the UK.

We can of course add on a visit to 'Turtle Beach' but the accommodation is a little bit of a let down so it is only for the most adventurous of Scott Dunn families. Some guests have combined this itinerary with other destinations such as Dubai, India or the Maldives. As with all our itineraries, everything is tailored and we can put together the perfect family adventure to Oman that is just right for you.

When to travel

The best time to visit Oman is between November and mid-March, when the cooler air brings the mountain scenery sharply into focus and daytime temperatures average 25°C. For the rest of the year, much of Oman is oppressively hot and hazy, particularly between May and August.
