Description
If you have never visited Zermatt, you are in for a rare treat. This car-free, historic village is very special, full of romance and character and the substantial recent investment in the infrastructure means that Zermatt is now a ski area to rival the best in the world.
Chamois is a modern, sophisticated penthouse apartment situated at the top (quiet) end of the village, just 2 minutes walk from the Klein Matterhorn lift station which is as close to ski in / ski out as you are likely to find in Zermatt.
Chalet Chamois is accessed by private lift or stairs and is spread over two floors. As you arrive on the upper floor, you are greeted by fabulous Matterhorn views in the open plan living area. Chamois may be modern, but the floor to ceiling windows and the open fireplace leave you in no doubt that you are living in Alpine luxury. The open plan kitchen faces the sitting room so watching your chef preparing your evening meal can be pure theatre.
One en-suite double bedroom is on the upper floor and downstairs are the other three, good sized bedrooms, each with private bathrooms.
The living area has a wide, south-facing balcony enabling you to soak up the sun and enjoy the stunning views of the Matterhorn and surrounding mountains.
On the ground level of the building are the shared facilities including Jacuzzi, sauna and ski / boot room with boot warmers.

Activities
Zermatt has plenty to offer guests other than skiing. The village itself is a pleasure to explore, whether on foot or in a horse-drawn carriage, with a wealth of shops, restaurants and historic buildings to enjoy. Exploring the mountain is also straightforward with mountain railways and some wonderful walks, whether on foot or on snowshoes. If you would like a really close view of the Matterhorn, a helicopter flight around it is truly breathtaking.
Zermatt is much more of a cultural centre than many other resorts. The English church is a highlight, especially at Christmas and art exhibitions, concerts, films, walking tours are plentiful. Every April, the Zermatt Unplugged music festival attracts big name acts.
There are also plenty more active possibilities including the fitness centre, indoor tennis and squash, gym, heli-skiing, ice skating, paragliding, stunning walking tours, gorge adventures, ice climbing and tobogganing
Finally, if all of this sounds exhausting, there are some top quality spas where you can be pampered to your heart’s content.

When to travel
Zermatt offers excellent conditions throughout a long season. Skiing is well under way by early December and even late November due to high altitude glacial terrain around 4000m. As the season progresses, lower runs offer great conditions too and the skiing below 2000m is appealing when it gets really cold. By April when other resorts can be knee deep in slush, Zermatt will have the best conditions in the Alps. Check out the Zermatt Unplugged music festival in April too.
