Description

Aquapura, a converted 19th Century manor house, lies in the beautiful Douro valley nestled amidst vineyards and overlooking the river Douro, in the heart of a UNESCO world heritage site. The Douro region is rich in culture, tradition and gastronomy, and famous for its wine and port making.

This hotel has 50 contemporary rooms and suites, many with panoramic views to the surrounding vineyards, the river and 8 hectares of lush green gardens. The contemporary designed Villas are situated on the bank overlooking the river and have decked roof terraces and plunge pools. The Villas da Vinha, located closer to the hotel, are surrounded by vineyards and have three shared pools. They are decorated in a more traditional style using rustic stone and rich fabrics.

From the hotel you can explore this fascinating local area, take a boat trip on the Douro, try local Portuguese cuisine and taste the fantastic regional wines. Whilst at the hotel, guests can relax by the heated outdoor pool, walk in the lush green gardens or be pampered in the beautifully designed spa with natural, organic products.

Vale d’abrão is casual, stylish and contemporary serving Mediterranean fusion cuisine on a beautiful terrace overlooking the vineyards. Almapura is the fine dining option inspired by the best local flavours and aromas. The bar boasts magnificent views of the sunset over the Douro river. Outdoor and indoor heated pool, tennis court, therapeutic spa and gym.

Activities

The hotel has a tennis court, a fantastic gym and a spa with therapeutic and holistic therapies available. Taking a boat trip along the banks of the Douro on a beautiful sailing boat or on a luxurious vintage boat with private lunch will reveal the magnificence of the landscape. Train trips along the river, helicopter trips through the region and bicycle rental are a great way to explore the region. Horse riding, hiking, canoeing, rafting and golf are also facilitated in the area.

When to travel

All year round. The Douro has a micro-climate, which massively boosts the quality and style of its wines, and on average, temperatures are higher than in Porto, and rainfall is less. Spring and autumn are the most popular times to go - April-June and September-October.
