Douro Valley

The Douro Valley is situated in northern Portugal and is home to the country’s second largest city, Porto. This stunning region is comprised of terraces of vineyards, olive groves and lush greenery cascading down the hillside into the river Douro which stretches from Northern Spain to the Atlantic Ocean at Porto. Over the last 25 years, 8 dams have been constructed to tame the fast flowing rapids, leaving it with a calm lake-like appearance in certain places. Visitors can enjoy the region’s famous port wine, wonderful red and white wines, rich gastronomy, walking in the beautiful countryside, boat trips along the Douro and visits to the beautiful Porto. The city is housed within 14th century walls which hide old wine cellars, and exudes an old British ambiance dating from the Napoleonic wars.
