The Monchique mountain range is the perfect location for a day of walking. The Monchique mountains offer superb views across the Algarve, and with old walkways and charming mountain villages, this is a must do outdoor experience.
The rolling hills, leafy green wooded areas and streams of the Monchique mountain range make it a perfect place to spend the day hiking. Known as the “garden of the Algarve”, its peaceful walking routes lead through chestnut and pine trees, old villages and granite rocks. With its highest mountain, Fóia, at only 902 metres, the walks follow ancient paths, and are do-able for all ages of the family.
The Fóia peak is worth the walk, and has stunning panoramic views across the Algarve. Embedded in the mountains is the old market town Monchique, with typical Algarvean houses, cobbled streets and quiet, relaxed cafes. Monchique is a brilliant place to spend the afternoon pottering around with the family, and is perfect for picking up traditional delicacies such as local honey, and Portuguese pastries.
