Description
The 500-hectare estate of Tenuta La Badiola, surrounded by vineyards and olive trees consists of L’Andana, a former residence of Leopold II, Duke of Tuscany, which is now an intimate boutique country house hotel and Casa Badiola a new addition to the estate ideal for families.
Tenuta La Badiola came about in 2004 when Alain Ducasse indulged his passion for Italy by setting up this resort in the heart of the Tuscan Maremma, inspired by the charms of the Mediterranean with the Moretti family in a dual role of hotelier and chef. It is an enchanting resort with a gourmand SPA, Tuscan Trattoria, golf driving range and romantic private chapel.
Hotel L'Andana is spread over two main buildings, the Villa and the Fattoria which are separated by a delightfully informal Winter Garden, made of wrought-iron and glass. All the rooms in are spacious and elegantly appointed with views over the estate and the beautiful rolling Tuscan countryside. There are 33 guest rooms, each with their own unique atmosphere that offer additional comfort and privacy with luxurious bathrooms featuring baths that are reminiscent of Roman spas. For guests enjoyment, the romantic pool offers crystal clear water for swimming and is nestled among cypresses and maritime pines.
Casa Badiola Golf House captures the soul of the Maremma landscape and wins the hearts of its guests with a genuine, authentic atmosphere. It is intended for families, who need space and intimacy at the same time, and demand the utmost comfort yet prefer to relax more informally and golfers who can make use of the green “in the back garden”.
Casa Badiola Golf House has a total of 14 rooms and suites, each with views of the green and surrounding hills. Each guest room and suite has its own kitchenette for preparing light meals, quick snacks or even baby food, as well as a private area outside. Guests in ground floor rooms can enjoy the intimacy of a scented garden; those upstairs have their own private terrace. Guests can use the large outdoor swimming pool for a regenerating swim, a relaxing read, or just sunbathing.
The children's club is a world of games and special activities which will treat your children to an unforgettable experience. Lots of stories to tell their friends back home – an adventure etched indelibly in their minds. And for parents, the ideal opportunity to devote some time to themselves, in complete peace and quiet or to sample a relaxing treatment at the ESPA spa or a chance to practice their swing on the golf practice course.
La Villa restaurant exudes intimacy and tradition with an open informal kitchen and fantastic veranda with views over the grounds. Wine and olive oil are produced on the estate and served in the restaurant which serves traditional Tuscan cuisine, using regional products as well as excellent seafood. Every morning the cast iron ovens turn out freshly baked doughnuts, orange flower brioches and currant buns for a delicious breakfast. The lunch and dinner menu changes with the seasons to ensure that only the freshest local produce is used. Choose your dish and the world class chef will cook it in front of you for an amazing culinary experience.
Tenuta La Badiola is an ideal place from which to explore the Maremma region by bicycle, on horseback or there are magnificent walks through the famous National Park. The coastline of Castiglione della Pescaia on the Tyrrhenian Sea is only a short drive from the hotel and provides a variety of options for sea lovers such as sailing and excursions to the neighbouring islands of Elba, Giglio and Giannutri. It is also perfectly situated to explore the nearby cities of art such as Grosseto, Florence and Siena.

Facilities
There are 2 restaurants. Trattorica Toscana and La Villa.
Trattoria Toscana, the only Alain Ducasse restaurant in Italy, run by headchef Christophe Martin, who has run it since it opened, earning it a Michelin star in 2007 thanks to his excellent work and that of his kitchen and dining-room staff. Located in what used to be the ancient granary of Grand Duke Leopold II of Lorraine, Trattoria Toscana is a sort of contemporary hostelry, a simple meeting place, where genuine specialities of Tuscan tradition are served. The rooms inside the old granary and its location enhance the experience of dining out, with vast windows overlooking the Mediterranean macchia and vineyards, kitchen equipment on display and a wood oven heralding the kind of menu on offer. Even the cellar is open to view, displaying about 150 labels, including wines made in the cellars belonging to the Moretti family - Petra and Tenuta La Badiola – the latter right adjacent to Trattoria Toscana. Numerous dishes are served in terracotta bowls and clay plates, a respectful tribute to local tradition. The restaurant is open only in the evenings.
La Villa restaurant has a cosy, informal kitchen leading to an intimate dining room, with views from the veranda overlooking the park, the chapel and the pool. Delicious Tuscan specialities are served for breakfast, lunch and dinner, and the menu changes with the season to ensure only the freshest local produce is used.
