Description
Fall in love with this jewel of a hotel. It’s easy to see why it remains a favourite of the International jet set such as Sofia Loren and the late Elizabeth Taylor – the Grand hotel Timeo overflows with class and sophistication.
With the Greek Amphitheatre just steps away from the hotel, you are close to the action, but with the tranquil atmosphere of the hotel and gardens, it’s easy to escape. The hillside town of Taormina is a delight, with stunning churches, piazzas, well kept winding streets, acclaimed restaurants and exclusive shops.
All 70 rooms are decorated stylishly with Italian flair, the suites offer spacious comfortable living rooms and luxurious marble bathrooms. While the Presidential suite boasts an expansive private terrace with a summer house and hydro massage swimming pool.
The restaurant is blessed with magical panoramic views of Mount Etna and the Bay of Taormina, the menu focuses on seasonal produce and local specialities including Pachino cherry tomatoes and Bronte pistachios. Activities
Sicily exudes a unique blend of cultures from Greek to Arab to Norman, with many interesting towns to visit including Taormina, Catania and Siracusa. Mount Etna, Europe's largest volcano, towers over the Eastern coast of the island and makes for an exhilarating day hike or is simply mesmerising to watch as lava spills from the peak. The Cyclopean coast offers delightful volcanic beaches and enchanting fishing villages.
When to travel
Sicily enjoys a blissful Mediterranean climate, with mild winters and warm springs and autumns. Even February, the coolest month, has average temperatures of 13°C, which means that any time of year is suitable.
If you want to go sightseeing around the island’s legendary historic and natural sites, October–November and March–June are reliably warm, with temperatures ranging from 15°C to 26°C. July and August are blessed with glorious sunshine, and average temperatures of around 28°C.
August is peak tourist season, many businesses close for two or three weeks. This is when most Italians go on holiday, about 70% of the population takes their vacation at the same time, therefore hardly any work gets done in Italy during that period and beaches can be extremely crowded.
