Description
Many of the rooms at Hotel Splendido have private terraces looking out over the harbour and are decorated in a traditional fresh and light northern Italian style.
The small, traditional fishing village of Portofino retains a feeling of old-world charm and as a UNESCO World Heritage site, where no new structures have been built since 1935, has a truly unspoilt feeling. With scenery of breathtaking natural beauty it is unsurprising that this town has attracted writers such as Guy de Maupassant and Truman Capote, and the most glamorous Hollywood stars, including Liz Taylor, Richard Burton, Humphrey Bogart and Clark Gable. As part of the Orient Express Hotel group, the service provided is unfailingly superb and in keeping with the glamorous history of the Hotel Splendido and the Cinque Terra.

When to travel
Portofino is a year round destination. The major tourist season is during the summer, when a majority of the annual events and festivals in the area are taking place. This is also an excellent time for sailing races which are popular in the area and draw many tourists in. However, in terms of weather, the months just before and after the busy tourist season may be the best time to head to Portofino.
