Description

The Christiania is centrally located just 100m from the main lifts, ski school meeting point and nursery slopes, making it as close to "ski in, ski out" as you are likely to find in Val d'Isère. Furthermore it is only two minutes walk from the main street of the stylish ski resort of Val d'Isere.

Many of the rooms have south or south-east facing balconies with beautiful mountain views. There is a selection of interconnecting and cabin rooms which offer multiple options for families. The rooms are well-proportioned and larger than those of many other ski hotels.

The elegant lounge with open fireplace is a perfect place to relax after skiing. The gourmet restaurant serves a full buffet breakfast and innovative French cuisine for dinner, and is to a very high standard. The staff are extremely friendly and yet consummate professionals which explains why the hotel has just been awarded its 5th star.

The fantastic wellness area at the hotel includes a sauna, pool, Hammam, fitness room and beauty centre using Sothys cosmetics and offers a range of relaxing and therapeutic massages. Children are welcome to use the pool when there are no treatments taking place.

Our purpose designed Scott Dunn children's club is only a few hundred metres away and is available to guests staying at the Christiania.

Accommodation

Most double rooms have fantastic mountain views and some have a balcony. A wide variety of connecting rooms create ideal spaces for families or groups. "Cabine" rooms are a more cost effective solution for families with an alcove with bunk beds or single bed at the entrance to the room, and a further double bedroom for parents. Family suites comfortably accommodate 5 people and some of the Junior suites consist of a spacious twin room with seating area and sofa bed suitable for one child. These suites can in turn connect with a further double room. All rooms have private bathrooms, telephone, radio, television, bathrobes and hairdryer. Superior rooms have been recently renovated. Most rooms can accommodate a cot. Rooms are categorised by view and room size and due to the wide variety of type, size and style, we recommend speaking to one of our consultants to get the accommodation to suit you best.

Childcare

The Christiania is one of our favourite family hotels and combined with our exclusive children's club, it makes for a great family holiday. The hotel offers a children's menu and during school holidays the children’s corner is open in the evenings from 5.30pm-9.45pm for 5-10yr olds. Activities include painting, modelling games, discovery games, cartoons and films.

Scott Dunn pioneered skiing holidays with childcare and this is an optional extra that many families consider indispensable. Our qualified professional staff offer childcare from 4 months and ensure that children have the most fantastic holiday and that parents can completely relax with peace of mind that their family is in great hands. Children can be taken to and collected from ski lessons and will be kept entertained with a varied and imaginative activity programme and given healthy home made lunches and snacks. Babysitting is available too.

Facilities

The hotel restaurant serves a sumptuous breakfast buffet, with lots of options to fill you up before a day on the slopes. Lunch can be taken on the terrace with magnificent views of the Joseray valley. In the evening, the restaurant offers a fantastic half board menu, with a fabulous starter buffet, a choice of main course, and an extensive dessert buffet, not to mention the cheese trolley. The bar offers a wide range of hot and cold drinks, aperitifs, after-dinner drinks and numerous cocktails.

The indoor swimming pool is surrounded by large glass windows bringing in lots of natural light. The Wellness area includes a sauna, Hammam, fitness room and a beauty centre using Sothys cosmetics and offering a range of relaxing and therapeutic massages. The hotel's concierge service is friendly and efficient.

Activities

Val d’Isère is a mecca for downhill skiing for good reason. It has enough to keep skiers of all standards challenged and entertained for a lifetime, let alone a week. The off piste potential is limitless and the snow record enviable.

Val d'Isère has plenty to offer less enthusiastic skiers too. The new Oxygen centre has fantastic facilities including 2 swimming pools, climbing wall, multi activity sports hall, fitness suite, gym, squash courts and a Wellness area with sauna, steam bath, spa, cold baths and hydro-massage.

Designated walking trails are a great way of appreciating the scenery and there is an ice rink, husky riding, parapenting, skidooing, cross country skiing and much more.

There is a wealth of quality restaurants in the village and on the mountain (many of which are accessible to non skiers). The shops and galleries offer some great shopping (both the window and the real varieties).

When to travel

Val d'Isère boasts one of the longest ski seasons in the world because, unlike other resorts above 1800m, 80% of the skiing happens above 2000 metres. As a result, early and late season offer reliable great conditions. Being high, it is cold though and we think March and April are the best times to visit Val.
