Description

Located just 20 minutes by boat from shore, on the tip of Viti Levu, Fiji, Dolphin Island nestles like a precious jewel, surrounded by crystal-clear waters.

Renowned interior designer Virginia Fisher has ensured Dolphin Island offers an extraordinary guest experience. Ambience is in great abundance as Virginia’s sense of place emerges strongly, as she references colours, textures and patterns from the Pacific – boldly and with her absolutely innate sense of style. Every level of guest comfort has been considered from thirsty beach towels to perfumed candles – and the total effect is utter magic.

The main bure, with its fabulous traditional palm-thatched roof and architecturally detailed elevation holds centre court, with a pair of equally picturesque guest bure suites sitting to each side in perfect harmony. This group of buildings are at one with the landscape and every aspect of their design ensures perfect enjoyment of the island’s nurturing and lush natural landscape.

The bure suites are perfect for a tropical lifestyle – featuring heart timber floors, plaster walls, stone tiles, wooden shutters, high ceilings and the latest in air conditioned comfort. The dressing rooms are large and generous and these are further complemented by well-appointed bathrooms, twin hand basins, shower, sculptural free-standing bath and outdoor shower, within a private garden courtyard. Fine pure cotton bed linen and soft feather pillows are perfectly suited to the climate and The Huka Retreats famed attention to detail is strongly evident within this haven of relaxation and romance.

For total romance, take an easy stroll to the top of the island where the hilltop sleep-out bure awaits. This utterly divine, thatched open-air bedroom, is both rustic and refined – perfect for a tryst or for an overnight stay!

Meals are delicious and feature fresh produce, with many flavours and ingredients unique to Fijian cuisine. Freshly caught fish is brought to the island daily so you can select your preference from the catch and it will be beautifully prepared and served to you within hours. Tropical fruit abounds – papayas, mangoes, bananas, pineapples etc and the fragrance of perfumed flowers is carried on the air.

With 13-acres of private island as a playground, you will not often do not feel the need to ever leave, however should you choose to – a wonderful variety of activities are available. Aquatic adventures abound, with warm, clear waters and coral reefs providing the perfect habitat for amazing marine life. You can snorkel, tank dive, sail, kayak, swim and fish with carefully selected operators whose local knowledge is invaluable. Cultural visits to nearby villages and areas of historical interest can be arranged, as can pampering massages and facials.

Activities

World-class diving experiences await in the pristine Bligh Waters surrounding Dolphin Island. Both snorkelling and tank diving trips can be arranged, with carefully selected, specialised local operators.

Water temperatures are very warm, visibility underwater is extremely high, with the soft coral and schools of fish abundant in terms of both quality and variety. The beauty and diversity of this marine paradise is breathtaking and the dive team has all the local knowledge to ensure you enjoy every minute of it.

When to travel

Maximum temperatures rarely move out of the 31°C (88°F) to 26°C (79°F) range all year round. Southeast trade winds from March to November bring dry weather and the rainy season runs from December to April.

Fiji does have a wet season, which is characterised by heavy, brief local showers and contributes most of the country’s annual rainfall. The wet season is normally from November to April and results from the southerly movements of the South Pacific Convergence Zone. Cyclones do occur in Fiji and are normally confined to wet season.

The best months for holidaying in regards to Fiji weather is late March through to early December.
