At a glance

  • Because Blue Sydney is integrated into the wharf complex, a huge range of exciting restaurants, bars and facilities are all on your doorstep.

  • Blue is the only hotel on the wharf at Woolloomooloo.

Description

Located on Woolloomooloo Bay, this award winning boutique hotel forms part of the redevelopment of the historic Finger Wharf on Sydney Harbour. Finger Wharf was an operational working wharf for much for the 20th Century but as new ports were built in the 1970's by the 1980's it was derelict and destined for demolition - thankfully the wharf was saved and today is home to some of Sydney's most fashionable restaurants, bars, apartments and the luxury Blue.

Taking its inspiration from the original façade, Blue Sydney boasts a contemporary sophisticated design - the guest rooms retain the authenticity of the historic wharf whilst offering stylish modern furnishings and many are split level, loft style rooms full of character. Each room has fabulous views of either the Sydney Harbour foreshores or the eclectic Woolloomooloo Bay village.

Some of Australia’s leading restaurants are located all along the wharf with many celebrity chefs hankering to be located in this vibrant, fashionable area. Another claim to fame is that Russell Crowe has a $14million penthouse apartment here. Blue’s Water Bar has been named ‘One of the Top Ten Bars in the World’ is known to be frequented by visiting local and international celebrities.

Blue has a indoor swimming pool, fully equipped gym and outdoor sundeck for guests and the central business and shopping district, Sydney opera house and the adjacent Royal Botanical Gardens are all within an easy walk.

Accommodation

Blue's 100 guest rooms and suites include 36 stunning loft rooms. Each room has been carefully designed to retain the character of the original heritage-listed wharf with chocolate suedette furnishings, CD, DVD players and LCD TVs and wireless broadband access. Due to the quirky nature of the building there are many different rooms types with varying views and configurations, the highlight being the Ultra Loft Suites, split level with spacious living areas downstairs and amazing city views.

Childcare

Children are more than welcome at Blue Sydney and there is so much for kids to see and do nearby, but there are no formal childcare facilities other than babysitting which can be arranged on request.

Facilities

The Blue Cafe is in the heart of the wharf and offers big breakfasts and classic Sydney cafe fare, all with fantastic views. The renowned Water Bar offers a chic, casual ambience where guests can relax on vast ottomans whilst enjoying a drink or snack. The Blue's other facilities include a fitness facility with state-of-the-art equipment, a 17 meter indoor heated pool and jacuzzi, outdoor sundeck and in room massage. A spa is located within the wharf complex.

Activities

From Blue there is a plethora of activities and sights including nearby golf courses, art galleries, museums, Bondi Beach, harbour cruises, the Sydney Harbour Bridge climb, Sydney Opera House, zoo, aquarium, theatre and the beautiful Royal Botanical Gardens.

When to travel

In the southern half of Australia the seasons are the opposite of those in the northern hemisphere: spring comes in September, summer is from December to February, autumn runs from March to May, and winter begins in June.

Sydney is great to visit year round but if you want warm sun and dry weather it is best to try between November and April. Their winter months of May - October usually have mild weather so you can still enjoy all the sights.
