Description

Feynan Eco Lodge is run by solar power and beautifully brought into light by a multitude of candles lit at dusk throughout the 26-room lodge.

The rooms are all en-suite and have private terraces overlooking the arid locality and the steep rocky hills beyond. The hotel is not luxurious by any means, but offers something very different from the larger more traditional hotels in Jordan. The rooms are clean and comfortable and when lit by candlelight are exceptionally pretty. Stunning views of Wadi Feynan can also be enjoyed from the rooftop terrace.

The location is ideal for walks into the surrounding area, be it the scenery, wildlife or archaeology. Hike over unspoiled terrain, visit local Bedouin encampments, canyon through the magnificent Wadi Ghwayr, mountain bike past ancient ruins, and descend into 4,000 year old copper mines. The food is something to write home about – locally produced using fresh produce with a range of options and there is a small cafe serving freshly grilled sandwiches, juices, hot drinks and desserts throughout the afternoon.

The Guest House has something of a lodge feel about it – it’s a good place to meet other guests on the roof in the evening with a cup of tea, candlelight and the star-filled night sky.

When to travel

For a small country, Jordan has an extraordinary range of climates. The best time to visit climate-wise is in spring (March to May) and autumn (September to November), when the daytime temperatures aren't too extreme. April is probably the best month, when temperatures are warm and wildflowers are in bloom. March can be cold and rainy in the north but is balmy by the Gulf of Aqaba and the Dead Sea.
