Description

The luxury island resort of Four Seasons Landaa Giraavaru is set in 44 acres of untouched wilderness flanked by one of the largest natural turquoise lagoons in the country. From here guests can snorkel with turtles, manta rays and whale sharks, join pioneering conservation projects in the Marine Discovery Centre, relax and unwind on the white-sand beaches or become immersed in the healing heart of the Spa and Ayurvedic Retreat. The younger guests can enjoy the Kids for All Seasons kids club which is open to children from 4 to 12 years. Teenagers can hang out in the Majaa Maizan, the resort's young adults' centre where they can enjoy a game of pool or table tennis, or enjoy the beach and water sports.

Landaa Giraavaru is just a 35-minute seaplane journey north of Male. The resort is a stunning paradise hideaway where luxurious seclusion meets wild natural beauty. Like its sister resort Kuda Huraa, it is very family orientated and combines chic with barefoot luxury. Both beach and over-water villas are incredibly spacious and extremely private with unparalleled sea views. As with all Four Seasons resorts the facilities are fantastic for all ages with plenty on offer to fill your days in the sunshine.

Landaa Giraavaru is close to a large number of excellent dive sites, including marine-protected sites and transfers are carried out by specially equipped dive dhonis. The Resort operates its own Dive Centre, licensed by PADI. A multilingual team of dive instructors offers courses for beginners and advanced divers, as well as leading daily dive and snorkelling trips. With the waters surrounding the island being consistently warm it makes the perfect home to enormous shoals of butterfly fish, blue turtles, dolphins and many other exotic, brightly coloured fish.

When to travel

The Maldives has a tropical climate distinguished by two seasons, or monsoons: the dry northeast monsoon from December to March, and the wet southwestern monsoon from May to November, with more strong winds and rain. April is a transitional period noted for clear water and heat. The temperature remains remarkably consistent at around 30°C.

February to April is the hottest period and resorts are almost all operating at capacity during this period. Mid-December to early January comes at even more of a premium due to Christmas and New Year and prices are even higher. Easter and the Italian holiday week in August also attract peak prices at most resorts.

Storms are more likely from May to November, though it’s still warm, skies can be cloudy and the humidity is higher. This is the low season, with fewer people and lower prices, with the exception of August.

Diving is good year-round, although a basic rule is that life on the reef is more varied and visibility better on the western side of any atoll from May to November and from the eastern side of any atoll December to April.

The surfing season runs from March to October, which is when resorts are cheapest.
