Description

The Conrad Maldives is unique amongst our Maldivian resorts in that there are two islands to choose from. Rangalifinolhu is where the all-new beach villas are based, and also the newly opened spa retreat, with stunning over-water villas with private spa rooms attached. Across a 400m causeway is Rangali Island, where you will find the water villas of varying indulgence.

All rooms are equipped with full entertainment systems, including satellite TV and DVDs. The Beach Villas have large outdoor garden bathrooms and as well as being larger, the Deluxe Beach Villas also have private plunge pools. The water villas come in a variety of guises with enhanced bathrooms and bedroom facilities.

There are a total of eight restaurants, including Ithaa, the world’s first all glass underwater restaurant, and three bars. However, as always in the Maldives, you can arrange private dining in your villa or on the beach.

There is a large pool with children’s area and the obligatory water sports centre and dive school. They also operate a kids club (4-12years). Two spas are available, one on each island.

When to travel

The Maldives has a tropical climate distinguished by two seasons, or monsoons: the dry northeast monsoon from December to March, and the wet southwestern monsoon from May to November, with more strong winds and rain. April is a transitional period noted for clear water and heat. The temperature remains remarkably consistent at around 30°C.

February to April is the hottest period and resorts are almost all operating at capacity during this period. Mid-December to early January comes at even more of a premium due to Christmas and New Year and prices are even higher. Easter and the Italian holiday week in August also attract peak prices at most resorts.

Storms are more likely from May to November, though it’s still warm, skies can be cloudy and the humidity is higher. This is the low season, with fewer people and lower prices, with the exception of August.

Diving is good year-round, although a basic rule is that life on the reef is more varied and visibility better on the western side of any atoll from May to November and from the eastern side of any atoll December to April.

The surfing season runs from March to October, which is when resorts are cheapest.
