Built in 1854 as the Imperial Hotel, The Vivanta by Taj - Connemara is the only heritage hotel in Chennai. Here you can enjoy the most luxurious surroundings in the city.

Chennai, formerly known as Madras, is well worth at least a full day as part of a wider itinerary covering Tamil Nadu. Visit Fort St George, still a powerful symbol of the British Empire, have your fortune told on Marina Beach and see an excellent example of South Indian temple architecture at Kapaleeshwar Temple.

Vivanta offers guests 145 rooms, 2 Deluxe Allure Suites, 2 Premium Temptation Suites and a Presidential Nirvana Suite. Rooms feature LCD TV, satellite, DVD Players, tea and coffee makers, wireless internet (additional charge), electronic safe and Forest Essentials bath amenities. The Presidential Nivana Suite boasts 2 bedrooms, private courtyard and jacuzzi.

Activities

Chennai is a major centre for music, art and culture. It is famous for its classical dance shows and Hindu temples, in particular the Kapaleeshwar Temple. There are also a number of dance and music festivals which will give you an interesting insight into this fascinating culture.

When to travel

The climate in southern India shows only slight seasonal variations. Temperatures and humidity remain relatively high all year round. Rainfall is common at any time of the year and the Monsoon Season has only marginally more precipitation than at any other time.
