Description

Located on the breathtakingly beautiful shores of Lake Pichola, the Leela Palace Kempinski Udaipur offers a dramatic setting for any stay in Udaipur. It is the only hotel in Udaipur that provides a lake view for all of its 80 rooms and suites.

The spacious rooms are beautifully furnished, with artefacts and furniture that represent the handicrafts of the local area, yet offering all the modern amenities you would expect of a hotel of this standard, such as flatscreen TVs, iPod docks and a surround sound system. The Lake View Rooms have wonderful views over the lake, whereas the Heritage View Rooms have views over the City or Lake Palace. Both room types can offer a private balcony. The suites are the epitome of regal life, offering breathtaking views and rooms that entice and beguile the senses. There are also Duplex Suites suitable for families.

The Leela Palace Kempinski Udaipur has three restaurants and bars including the Dining Room, which offers international cuisine, the Sheesh Mahal which is a speciality Indian restaurant and the Library Bar, a superb old fashioned bar offering anything from Champagne to Single Malts. The hotel can also arrange private al fresco dining overlooking the lake.

The hotel has a superb spa featuring 14 treatment spaces, a fitness centre, steam rooms, Jacuzzi and a large swimming pool overlooking Lake Pichola.

All rooms and suites offer fantastic palace and lake views.

Activities

Udaipur is an enchanting 16th century city in the heart of Rajasthan. Also known as "the city of lakes", Udaipur is surrounded by the scenic beauty of the Aravalli Mountains and regal palaces of marble and sandstone. Some of the top attractions include the City Palace Museum, Crystal Gallery, Fateh Sagar Lake, Sajjangarh, a hilltop royal residence resting about five kilometres west of Udaipur and Saheliyon ki Bari, the majestic gardens on the banks of the Fateh Sagar Lake.

When to travel

Udaipur offers moderate climate all through the year. Summers during March to June have temperature maximum of 38°C with a minimum of 28°C. Winters during December to February have the pleasant climate in the temperature band of 12°C to 28°C. Monsoons offer very little rainfall.

Mewar festival, the traditional spring welcome festival during April is an eye catching event with songs, dances, firework displays, fairs and processions. Gangaur festival on the day following Holi (February-March) is a celebration with many festivities. Shilpgram festival (December) is a great fair to view the art and craft of all the states of western India.

Best period to visit Udaipur is winters from October to February.

How to get there

Udaipur is the nearest airport and is served by internal flights from Delhi and Mumbai. 9-hour direct flight to Delhi Indira Gandhi International, followed by a 1-hour domestic flight to Udaipur. The palace is a 45-minutes drive from the airport, followed by a 5 minute boat ride from the shores of Lake Pichola.
