Description

Bangaram Island is just an hour’s flight followed by an hour’s boat ride from Kerala’s cultural capital of Cochin. This untouched haven is characterized by virgin coral reefs, turquoise blue lagoons, pristine white beaches and lush green coconut palms.

Set in 128 acres, Bangaram Island Resort offers 30 tiled-roof beach huts, each with its own palm-thatched verandah, ensuite bathroom, ceiling fan and fridge. The accommodation is simple though comfortable, and the atmosphere is very relaxed. Seafood is abundant, and fish and coconut are used to create sublime South Indian specialities much of which is barbecued on the beach.

Activities on offer include kayaking, catamarans, deep sea fishing and of course, there is access to world class diving on untouched reefs. One of the most appealing things about the Lakshadweeps is the fact that it is relatively undiscovered by tourists. Bangaram is one of the few islands open to tourists, meaning that the cultural and diving opportunities are all the more special and unique. Yoga and meditation are also offered along with Ayurveda massages to totally relax and unwind.

Guide price £1,740 Per person

£1,740 per person for 8 nights (including 2 necessary in Cochin at the Malabar House) on a full board basis, including international flights and transfers.

When to travel

Isolated from much of India by the Western Ghats, the climate of Kerala & Karnataka is tropical and as a result of the mountain ranges the area isn’t as dry as much of India. The best time to visit is from April through June. While there can be the occasional light showers these are just a prelude of the wet weather to come. The weather is generally hot and humid during this early summer. The monsoon season arrives in late June and thus can wash out July and August. September is much more humid as a result of the rainy season, and the fall can be dry but with the humidity this makes it feel quite the warm. The temperatures cool down and the humidity lets up as winter comes in around December, with this season lasting until February when the dry spring returns. Winter can be a pleasant time to visit, especially if you’re looking to head off the beach and explore this Indian land of mystery.
