Tsukiji Fish Market
A morning visit to the world's largest fish market is a must do when in Tokyo, followed by a breakfast of what is probably the freshest sashimi in the world.
Wake up early one morning to go to the Tsukiji Fish Market. This is a fun experience for all ages and as it is the largest fish market in the world it really is an impressive sight. The main area of the market opens at 9am and you can spend an hour or two wandering around to see the weird and wonderful fish in 'Japan's kitchen' before the freshest sashimi breakfast at one of the surrounding eateries. Take old shoes as they will smell after and also check with your hotel concierge that it is open as they close on Sundays, some Wednesdays and public holidays. If you would like to visit the tuna auction, you will need to be there before 4am and numbers are very restricted.
