Rest of Japan

There is much more to Japan than just Tokyo and Kyoto. Head just 90 minutes out of Tokyo and the pace changes completely. Hakone National Park, created by nearby Mt. Fuji’s repetitive volcanic activity, is renowned for its hot springs and spas. A stay in a Ryokan (traditional Japanese Inn) is an exclusive and unique experience. Explore Lake Ashi to see the up-side-down Mount Fuji reflected in the waters, and enjoy the Komagatake Ropeway, travelling above Hakone’s most thermally active area.

For a historical fix, travel to Hiroshima visiting the A Bomb Dome and Museum offering for an intriguing insight into the devastating events surrounding the attack on the city in 1946. The picturesque island of Miyajima is a short ferry journey from Hiroshima and worth a visit. As the ferry approaches the island, a red Shinto shrine appears to float on the sea. There are numerous temples, shrines and narrow cobbled alleys to explore whilst wild deer can be found roaming through the countryside.
