Description

The Oberoi Lombok is situated on the tranquil Medana Beach on the beautiful island of Lombok with spectacular views over to the Gili Islands. It has long been a favourite of Scott Dunn's as it is a peaceful romantic retreat with a true Indonesian feel and wonderful service.

The Oberoi Lombok is home to a village-like secluded cluster of 20 luxurious villas and 30 spacious terrace pavilions set in tropical gardens. Each is beautifully decorated in traditional style with dark woods, local fabrics and thatched roofs. All of the pavilions have spacious air conditioned bedrooms, sunken marble garden baths and limestone walls to ensure absolute solitude. The villas have a courtyard with rock pool, raised dining pavilion and some villas have individual pools with shaded walled gardens - the ultimate in privacy.

The settings for the Oberoi Lombok's open air restaurants are very unique - wherever you chose to dine you will be able to see the ocean and the experience is wholly Indonesian despite the large variety of cuisines available. Sunsets from the Totek Bar are fabulous as the sun goes down with the magical backdrop of the Gili Islands.

The Oberoi Lombok's spa offers a wide range of indulgent treatments derived from holistic therapies inspired by ancient Eastern traditions of health and healing. The serene atmosphere, ancient artefacts and reflection pools create the perfect ambience in which to unwind. There is also a gym, tennis court and mountain bikes are available for guests to use. The hotel's much photographed infinity swimming pool is simply stunning.

If you are able to drag yourself away, trips to the neighbouring Gili islands for snorkelling and diving are well worth it as the reefs there are world renowned. The hotel's beach club offers kayaks, windsurfing, PADI diving courses and private boat trips with indulgent picnic lunches.

Guide price £1,785 per person

When to travel

Straddling the equator, Indonesia tends to have a fairly even climate year-round. Rather than four seasons, Indonesia has two – wet and dry – and there are no extremes of temperature between winter and summer. In most parts of Indonesia, the wet season falls between October and April and the dry season between May and September. December and January see Indonesia at its most humid and rain tends to come in sudden tropical downpours, but it can also rain for more prolonged periods.
