  • One of Ubud's newest properties - every modern comfort and convenience has been considered

Description

Ubud is well known to be Bali's cultural and artistic heart and has the appeal of the eclectic mix of cultures it attracts, the strong sense of Balinese tradition and the verdant peaceful tropical countryside which surrounds it. The Samaya is within easy reach of this diversity and yet sits in a tranquil riverside location and could be miles form anywhere.

Sister hotel to the fabulous Samaya in Seminyak, one of our favourite properties on the island, the new Samaya Ubud is a fantastic example of modern island luxury. Nineteen contemporary private pool villas are located amongst the lush rice paddies, some are set on the hillside and others next to the Ayung River.

The one, two and three bedroom villas have an elegant contemporary design and are filled with natural light. Modern comforts such as LCD TV players, wireless internet and bose ipod docking stations are standard, and for anything you need your private butler is on hand to make your stay as soothing and personally tailored as possible.

There are two restaurants serving delicious gourmet cuisine. 'Scene' is open in the evenings and serves modern eclectic dishes focusing strongly on local organic produce. 'Swept Away' is the perfect location for an informal healthy lunch, afternoon snack, leisurely dinner or a cocktail lying in a lounger overlooking the river.

Samaya Ubud's spa and wellness centre perches over the Ayung River and is an idyllic spot for relaxation and rejuvenation and treatments are also available in the comfort and privacy of your own villa.

The Samaya Ubud is perfect place from which to explore the local area. Not only can you visit the charming town close by, but the hotel can also organise a variety of cultural excursions and activities such as cycling, hiking and nature walks. However, the tranquility and fabulous service at The Samaya Ubud may mean that you find it hard to leave at all.

When to travel

Bali’s climate is warm and humid, temperatures averaging between 21°C and 31°C. Short bursts of rain occur from November until April, making the velvet green landscape come alive. April to October is the dry season, although in hilly Ubud, you rarely feel too hot.

Festival periods can get busier. In Ubud, however, you never feel the crowds. This is the advantage Ubud has over the south coast area that can get packed to bursting around August, Christmas and New Year.

Additional notes

Renovation work at The Samaya

The Beachfront Villas at The Samaya are currently in the rebuilding stage as part of the scheduled refurbishments at the property.

The renovation will include a total rebuild of the villas, larger private pools, updated bathrooms and re-configuration of the previous villa layout to create a living space and a fantastic overall finish. The architect responsible for the original Samaya design, The Royal Courtyard at The Samaya and The Samaya Ubud, has again surpassed himself with a winning combination of luxury chic & privacy whilst maintaining that home from home feeling.

The work will be monitored and supervised to attract minimum disturbance. The beachfront access remains open, as does the use of the Spa, Pool, gardens and the beachfront front boardwalk decking. The rest of the resort will function as normal as possible throughout and the Royal Courtyard Villas, set in a tranquil Balinese village environment just across the road from the main building, remain entirely undisturbed.
