Description
Nestled between the Bali Barat National Park and the Java Sea, the exclusive Matahari Beach Resort and Spa, Asia's first Relais & Chateaux member, is a perfect place for those seeking a relaxing holiday off the beaten track and away from the crowds of some of Bali's more populated beaches.
Each of the 32 guest rooms at Matahari is handmade by local artisans and feature hand carved wooden folding doors that open to a luxurious bedroom, complete with a four-poster bed. The exotic design reflects the stunning tropical grounds, bursting with hibiscus, frangipani and fragrant jasmine.
Dining is at the relaxed beachside Leon Beach Bistro or at Dewi Ramona where imaginative east-meets-west creations guarantee an exceptional culinary experience. Taking inspiration from a Balinese water palace, the award winning Parwathi Spa is a sanctuary of relaxation. The specially developed massage techniques and aroma oils used to revitalize and rejuvenate body, mind and soul are derived from ancient Balinese culture. Take advantage of the on site PADI dive centre, bike trips to nearby villages, morning Yoga classes or sail on a traditional Balinese boat.

When to travel
Straddling the equator, Indonesia tends to have a fairly even climate year-round. Rather than four seasons, Indonesia has two – dry (between May to September) and wet (between October to April) – and there are no extremes of temperature between winter and summer. In most parts of Indonesia, the wet season falls between October and April and the dry season between May and September. December and January see Bali at its most humid and rain tends to come in sudden tropical downpours, but it can also rain for more prolonged periods.
