The Shangri-La Guilin is situated on the banks of the Li River, on the outskirts of Guilin town itself. The latest addition to Guilin's luxury hotels, the Shangri-La offers spacious and well-appointed rooms, a choice of three restaurants and an expansive pool area.
The rooms at the Shangri-La are the largest hotel rooms in the city, and provide a modern and luxurious ambiance. Some rooms have views across to the Li River, whilst others provide views of the hotel's beautifully landscaped gardens.
The hotel has a variety of dining options, from the Shang Palace, offering the finest Cantonese, Hunanese, Huaiyang and Guilin delicacies, to the more relaxed Li Cafe, which offers international cuisine and 'live cooking stations' offering teppanyaki and tandoori, which can be cooked to your taste. There is also the U Bar, which offers a wide choice of beers and a western-style grill.
The spa offers an extensive list of treatments, whilst the health club includes a gym, indoor and outdoor swimming pools and two tennis courts.
Accommodation
The Shangri-La offers 449 rooms with either river or garden views. Executive River View rooms each have a private terrace, offering spectacular views of the Li River and the mountains, and the hotel also has a number of suites.
Childcare
Children are welcome at the hotel, although there are no specific childcare facilities. There is a separate children's swimming pool within the health centre complex.
Facilities
The hotel's three restaurants provide a wide range of dining options to suit all palates. The Lobby Lounge overlooks landscaped gardens and is the perfect place to relax with afternoon tea or a post-dinner drink. The Pool Bar, next to the swimming pool complex, offers drinks and light snacks all day.
Activities
From the Shangri-La Guilin, you can explore the beautiful countryside of Guilin and take trips along the Li River and wonder at the magnificent karst mountains that rise from the water. You can also visit local fishing villages to see the traditional way of life, and watch the locals use trained cormorants to catch fish.
When to travel
The best time to visit Guilin is between October and December. March to May is also a good time to visit, but there are occasional showers. January and February is generally damp and drizzly, whilst in June to September is it hot and humid with possible heavy rains.
