Description
Following Aman’s philosophy for zen-like simplicity, whilst not compromising on the highest possible levels of comfort, accommodation and service, Amansara is one of the most exclusive hotels in Siem Reap. Just 10 minutes from the entrance of Angkor, Amansara is a tranquil and exclusive garden enclave just a stone's throw from one of the most imposing UNESCO World Heritage Sites of over 1000 ancient temples.
The 24 suites are open plan with polished marble floors, creamy stucco walls and rich, dark Asian timbers. The rooms feel ultra modern and minimalist and beyond the combined sleeping and living area is the bathroom which opens onto a light-filled courtyard. 12 of the suites have their own salt water infinity pool.
Dining is in the imposing unique circular dining room or out on its terrace with fabulous panoramic views. Lunch by the poolside and dine under the stars on the roof terrace or in the comfort of your suite's own private courtyard. The chef specialises in Khmer favourites and elegant Western dishes and the food is simply exquisite.
The original slate swimming pool and lap pool offer respite from the heat and for a total immersion into relaxation, a treatment at the tranquil spa specialising in traditional Cambodian massage and beauty techniques is a must.
Accommodation
Amansara's 12 Suites and 12 Pool Suites have a similar setting and are sumptuously designed with open spaces, plenty of natural light and terrazzo and timber throughout. Each has a private outdoor courtyard, an open plan sleeping and living area with sofa, dining table and chairs. The bathrooms have beautiful floor to ceiling glass doors which open onto a light filled garden. All suites are air conditioned with ceiling fans, music systems and wireless internet. In the courtyards, the Pool Suites have a private pool measuring 6m x 5m. Included in your stay is breakfast and a choice of lunch or dinner daily, house beverages and house outings twice daily with an English-speaking guide and driver.
Childcare
Children are treated extremely well at Amansara who provide cots and welcome packs for babies and can tailor the daily excursions to suit families with children. Children are welcome in the main dining room and special meals can be prepared. Highchairs are available as are nannies or babysitters (but please give plenty of notice).
Facilities
Amansara's circular dining room with 7-metre ceiling is the focal point for the hotel and serves fabulous Khmer and Western dishes with the freshest if ingredients. There is a walk-in wine and cheese cellar and casual lounging area but guests can also dine by the poolside or in their suite. Amansara has two lovely pools - one curved slate pool surrounded with comfy sun loungers and one lap pool for exercise. There is also a library with books, CDs and board games, a gallery, a wonderful roof terrace perfect for meals, drinks and retreating peacefully in the shade. Amansara's spa has 4 treatment rooms, each with a separate relaxation area and private steam bath and shower and here soothing massage and beauty treatments using Cambodian techniques and Aman's own natural spa product range can be enjoyed.
Activities
Excursions twice daily with a private guide and driver (in a motorised trishaw) are included in your stay at Amansara and these focus on the local point of interest within the Angkor complex. In addition you may like to explore the fishing villages of Tonle Sap, deeper into the countryside or explore independently by a bicycle. The hotel organises cooking classes or even take a helicopter tour or ride to the temples by elephant.
When to travel
Cambodia is hot all year round and the best time to visit is during the dry season, which runs from November to April. It starts to get wetter in May and the wettest months are September and October. It is still possible to visit during this time as rain usually falls as short sharp storms. November is a fantastic month to visit Cambodia as it is very green after the rainy season and the lakes and rivers are full of water.
