Estancia Vik Jose Ignacio sits on 4,000 acres of rolling countryside near Jose Ignacio in Uruguay, only twenty two kilometres northeast of Punta del Este.
Just twelve vast suites, in a range of styles all individually designed by acclaimed local artists, provide state-of-the-art sleeping quarters, while the modern eclectic style of the rooms in the main house ensure that there is always something of interest. The estancia is filled with funky, contemporary, site-specific artwork also by Uruguayan artists which really enhances guests' experience of a given space. The living room is inspirational with a beautifully painted ceiling and walls dominated by eight enormous semi-precious Uruguayan geodes. Estancia Vik also boasts a fantastic indoor sauna and spa.
Outside a black granite pool and loungers are a great spot for relaxing, and options to experience outdoor living Uruguay-style abound. Polo, horse riding, long walks, surfing and golf are all easily arranged. The dunes and rollers of the Atlantic Ocean are approximately two kilometres away.
One of the highlights of staying here is the monumental parrilla, where huge steaks are grilled to perfection over a fire pit in a graffitied, Nissan-hut inspired room.

When to travel
November to March is the ideal time to visit weather wise. The very popular peak summer season from Christmas to mid-February gets booked up well in advance so best to plan early. During this period the whole place comes alive and there is a great party atmosphere. It is worth bearing in mind however that during the quieter season - including November, many of the area's bars and restaurants are closed which does tend to restrict eating options to your hotel.

Punta del Este Capitán Corbeta CA Curbelo International is the nearest airport, and served by flights from Buenos Aires. Estancia Vik is 30-minutes from Punta del Este airport. Alternatively, Montevideo Carrasco International Airport is 180km from the hotel.
